Applying oil based over water based finish

Q: I applied 2 coats of water based sealer and finish on an unfinished ash floor. I’m not happy with the results and want to use oil based finish instead. I bought Zar semi gloss. Is there a certain length of time I need to wait before applying the oil based polyurethane?

I have already sanded it with 150 grit sandpaper and cleaned off the dust. What applicator would you suggest for the oil based poly? Thanks for your help.

A: As soon as moisture levels have returned to normal after applying water based coatings you can proceed with applying more finish.  We are talking hours, not days.  So, you should be fine to proceed.  Apply the solvent based coating according to label instructions.  Some finishes apply very nicely using a short pile roller.  Other coatings cannot be rolled on, in which case the best method is to use a lambswool applicator attached to a wooden block while cutting in the edges with a bristle brush.
