Q: I am installing circle sawn Doug fir floors. I see some colors I like, but they never say what stain they are! Which stain would be more of a chocolatey brown? I am trying to avoid the orange or red undertones.
A: Colours are subjective and the sky is the limit. Manufacturers all have their own colour lines and formulas and there are many to choose from. I think you will have a tough time finding chocolate brown. Maybe a better place to start would be checking out Sherwin Williams stain colours or Benjamin Moore. If you find something close perhaps they could add a bit of pigment.
