Q: I had a scratch on my old hardwood floors (1950’s house, original oak floors). I tried to sand down to get the scratch out. I got below the poly and the floor is now the light color of the original wood. Is there a way to get the area a little darker to get a little closer to the color of the surrounding floor? There is no stain on the floor, just natural color.
Will the light just eventually deepen or should I try some stains on the floor to try to get it close? I do know it is a clear satin poly on top and I don’t think they were refinished that long ago. We just moved into the house about a month ago. Any help would be appreciated.
A: If you believe the floor was finished recently, I would just add a bit of new finish on the scratch and leave it.
