Removing excess wax from wood floor

Q: I just recently purchased a house and had a friend help with the hardwood floors. I believe we put down too much of the Minwax Paste Finishing wax because after buffing the floor is still very tacky. What do you recommend to remove the excess wax? What is the next step after removing the excess wax? I have a very upset fiance that wants to move in! Thank you!

A: You could dampen a cloth with mineral spirits and wipe the floor. Dampened, not dripping wet. Then give the floor a buff and walk on when not sticky.

Don’t leave such cloth just laying around. They can ignite on their own.

It’s a good thing to remember with all things having to do with coatings of any kind. More or thicker is not better.
