Finishing a wood slice floor

Q: I just did a wood slice floor. Should I seal the wood before I poly it, and then grout? Or grout first, then seal and poly?

A: Forgive me but I’ve been at this trade many years and have never heard of a wood slice floor. Please explain.

Follow-up: I cut small logs into slices then glued them to the plywood that was under the old carpet. But now it needs finishing.

A: It should be well dried out before applying any type of finish to it. This sounds extremely rustic. And then you will need to apply a caulking recommended for this to serve as a type of chinking between the logs. I would do the finish first but only if the wood has been dried.

Follow-up: OK thanks, that’s what I thought, I should seal it first, then caulk.
