Floor lost luster

Q: In 2001, I refinished my hardwood floors. I used Mini Wax stain and Mini Wax Super Fast Drying Polyurethane for Floors products. I put on 3 coats of the Polyurethane. My wood floors have now lost its luster.

There are also a few spots where there looks like there are green bubbles. How can I bring back the luster? Do I need to refinish again?

A: I don’t know what the green bubbles are all about. However, the floors can be freshened up by applying another coat of polyurethane. First I would give them a good cleaning to help remove any contaminants and possible adhesion issues this can cause. You could wipe the surface down with a solution of TSP and water or a cleaner designed to be used for such a floor such as this one: www.hardwoodcleaner.com

The existing coating will need to be thoroughly but gently abraded with a fine abrasive, all dust removed and a thin coat of finish applied.
