Q: We had new unfinished Red Oak Common Hardwood installed by a flooring company that used a NOFMA certified flooring product. They applied three coats of Poloplaz urethane oil base finish. After about four weeks we noticed scratches where the Dining Room chairs are. We have protective felt pads under the legs.
What would cause the hardwood floors to scratch so easily? Is the quality of the wood poor? I know they applied the three coats of poly.
A: I would inspect the felt pads. They do wear and if you get a piece of grit embedded in them that could cause the scratches. Any finish will scratch and I know Poloplaz makes very good finishes.
