My laminate floors are very dull

Q: My laminate floors are very dull and won’t shine when washed. What can I do?

A: I would check with the manufacturer to see if they have a recommended cleaner. I am fairly sure, however, that Bona Kemi Pacific floor cleaner can also be used on laminate. www.bonakemi.com

Another one which can be purchased online is made by Swing Paints in their Circa1850 line called Bare Floor. www.circa1850.com

How do I get my dull laminate floor to shine?

Q imported from our old site, Face Lift Floors: How do I get my floors to shine. I really don’t know what they are made of. It is Columbia click flooring, a laminate. I really don’t know anything else about it.

A: Columbia flooring has a web site. They provide maintenance instructions there. It sounds possible that someone may have used an oil soap or some such “cleaner” on the surface of your floor and it has given this dull appearance. That is a guess. This company provides instructions and their own cleaner. At any rate, this is not a real wood veneer, but is a hard surface, like your countertop. Perhaps a mild solution of vinegar and water would help. Apply with slightly dampened and not wet cloth or sponge, and wipe dry. Otherwise, contact the manufacturer. They warranty their product against fading.
