Q: I have a tongue and groove, relatively inexpensive, hardwood floor in my kitchen. A 3/4″ gap has appeared between ends of two of the pieces.
How can I address this?
A: It sounds to me that one of the boards, probably the shorter one that is leading up to the wall is not nailed. Try and kick it or push it into place. Flooring doesn’t expand and contract end to end. This board has moved and I think the only reason it did is because the installer missed nailing it. I’ve seen it more than once on the same job.
