Q: We removed carpet from our hardwood floors. The floors are in great shape, but there are hundreds of holes where the tac strip was removed as well as unfinished wood under the strip.
How do we fill the holes and finish the edge to match the rest of the floor?
A: There are plenty of colour matched fillers in tubes and jars out there to take care of the nail holes from the tack strips. You can get something from either Home Depot or your local flooring retailer. For the edges, a hand scraper, and file to sharpen it with and a bit of fine sandpaper will do it. You will see a difference along the end walls, but the sides should blend in not too bad. Most of this will be covered by quarter round at any rate.
