Q: I want to install hardwood in a condo with concrete floors. Every large store I have gone to tells me it can’t be done, or rather, they will not do it – that I have to install pre-engineered floors instead.
They do not tell me why. I prefer hardwood floors and would like to know if there is a problem installing hardwood on a plywood sub-floor secured to the concrete.
A: No, I don’t think there is a problem installing hardwood to a plywood layer secured to concrete. However, in this day and age, why would you go to that extent? It is a big deal moving supplies into a building. And with the cost and install plus moving of the plywood, it won’t be fun or cheap.
Mirage engineered offers a wear layer near as thick as solid 3/4 flooring! So you would have all the benefits of a solid wood floor without the extra pain and expense of solid wood in this environment.
