Q: I have installed a hardwood floor over particle board (with tar paper between). I thought I had read enough instructions before beginning, but somehow I missed that I shouldn’t put the flooring over particle board.
What problems can I expect? What are some solutions? I haven’t finished the floor (It’s all nailed in, but I haven’t sanded/sealed yet).
A: You can expect the floor to work loose and start to creak. Aside from taking it up and putting down an appropriate sub floor, you might survive this by boring, screwing down into the joists and plugging the screw hole.
