Q: I am installing a bamboo floor that is 5/8″ thick. I cannot find any place near me that rents an air powered flooring nailer (or shims to adjust a 3/8″ or 3/4″ ) to accommodate 5/8″ thick flooring. How should I install it?
Pre-drill and use a hammer and nail set? Other options please?
A: Aside from a pneumatic gun, the old fashioned way remains:hammer and nail. You might have to pre drill. My suggestion would be to try a couple of pieces to see how it goes.
Are you sure a 3/4 nailer won’t work? I realize it will likely fire the nail a bit higher than it should be, but would still be below the surface or perhaps you could adjust the angle of the nailer manually.
