How do I get burn marks off my wood floors? They are from cigarettes. I don’t want to get floors redone for a few little spots.
I have laminated flooring. We scratched it during Christmas. Is there any way to remove the scratch without having the floor replaced?
I have a beautiful home with hardwood floors. I also have 4 young boys who have made marks and dull streaks, and scratches from toys. What can I do, that isn’t too expensive, to make my floor look like new again?
I have vintage flooring, jatoba, with an aluminum oxide finish. When a contractor was working in the house the other day, he scratched one of my boards with a pretty long 6″ scratch that is highly visible during the day. Is there a way to buff this out? I tried to apply a stain pen but it won’t take the stain. Any suggestions?
I need a quick repair on a scratch across my light oak wood floor. I do not want a kit, just a homemade quick fix. I need to refinish them one day soon, but I need to do this touch up quickly, with an at home item.
So I didn’t heed the expert advice and I refinished my hardwood floors myself…
I have a 1948 river cottage with beautiful pine floors. When I purchased the property the kitchen had two vinyl tile floors, one on top of the other, which I removed and covered with 1/2 inch plywood then a sheet of vinyl. The property became a rental for about 3 years. Now, I want to remove the sheet of vinyl and plywood and refinish the kitchen floor. My concern is that I used 1-1/2 inch fine thread sheet rock screws to hold the plywood down and that when I go to refinish the floors I will have 100 small screw holes throughout. I also chunked the floor up pretty bad in some places when removing the old vinyl tile floor, It was held down with the old black tar like adhesive. Is there anything I can do to hide the 60-100 screw holes? How about the chunking I did with a chisel like tools? Maybe I could take pine boards from under the kitchen cabinets?
I asked if it would be possible to put a coat of the satin on top. I think he is willing to do this, but he says that every coat added makes a floor shinier, by it’s nature. Is that true?
I just had my floors refinished due to a water damage. I have 3/4″ red oak. We went with a natural finish with semi-gloss finish. The floors look great, but I have one concern: one area in my floors, when the SUN hits this spot, I can see swirl marks. Is this finishing problem?
I just bought an old house. I ripped up the worn-out carpet in the hall to find hardwood flooring underneath. It extends into the bedrooms. However, the hallway has an area of what appears to be water damage. It is stained, and the boards even seem to have changed in texture and seem to have shrunk some. Can that be sanded down, or will I need to replace those boards?
We built a new home last year and installed S******* engineered wood floors throughout most of the downstairs. Even though we keep our dog’s claws clipped, we still have lots of scratches. The finish is aluminum oxide. I’ve tried the standard scratch repair kits (filler, crayon type fillers, etc.) and it does nothing. I’m trying to contact the manufacturer but do you have any ideas? Can the floors be sanded and refinished?
Our dogs and child have managed to thoroughly dent our 90 year old Swedish finished fir flooring. We are preparing to sand the floors in hopes to be able to at least minimize the dents. My question is what should we use to refinish that will 1) make less visible any remaining dents and 2) prevent further damage? (We are not set on Swedish Finish)
I have scratches, from moving furniture, on my wood floors. Without getting them refinished again, is there anything I can do to buff them out?
I just obtained some pre-finished samples to help me choose the species, color and finish of my new floor. I have a dog. I tried to see how resilient the flooring would be by scratching the samples with my thumbnail. None of the samples seem very resilient, but what really seems to scratch is the finish, not the wood, and this uses the aluminum oxide.
After having a large group of people over, someone must have had a nail coming out of their high heeled shoes and put deep round dents all throughout my kitchen floor. How (or can) this be repaired without replacing the entire floor? My house was just built three years ago and I can’t imagine having to replace the hardwood flooring.
We removed carpet from our hardwood floors. The floors are in great shape, but there are hundreds of holes where the tac strip was removed as well as unfinished wood under the strip. How do we fill the holes and finish the edge to match the rest of the floor?
I am doing a kitchen remodel. The contractor glued bamboo wood flooring to 1×6 subfloor. The color of the floor was wrong. It is being removed now, leaving large divots in the subfloor from the glue pull up. Does the subfloor need to be replaced or can it be filled during the installation of the right flooring?
Is there anyway to remove scratches from laminate flooring?
I have a small dog that has left scratches on my hardwood floors in my foyer. I have butterscotch coloured hardwoods, but some of these scratches have left visible marks I suppose where the colouring has been stripped (the scratches are lighter than the floor as a whole). How would I fix this? Do I have to have my floors refinished, or is there a filler of some sort, or an easier way of fixing these scratches?
We recently moving into an old historic home. We placed felt protectors or coasters made to protect wood flooring on all of our furniture. I have discovered some dents in the wood when cleaning the floors. Is there a way to repair these places? We are renting and I am quite concerned about this!
