DIY Buff and coat?

I recently moved into a home with hardwood floors, and although they’re in good shape they look as though they could use an extra layer of protection. I’m wondering if there is a DIY way to add a layer of protection, like polyurethane (or something better) that will still leave the floors with a nice shine but will also protect against heavy foot traffic, dogs, kids and frequently dropped things.

Is there a wax or some cheap way to make old wooden floors look better? I am moving into an apartment that has older floor with some missing finish in some areas. I don’t want to sand.

Installing salvaged wood

I took out some old hardwood strip flooring from a renovation job and pulled out the nails from the back and plan on cutting out the damaged wood and re-installing the good wood in my home. I have put down a tongue and grove plywood subfloor and am wondering if finishing nails or using a glue would be the best way to install the old hardwood. It is not tongue and grove, it’s simply strips.

Water borne overtop an oil finish?

I have hardwood floors that I plan on redoing. I plan on sanding and doing all that needs to be done. My question is, right now I assume that the finish is oil, is it OK if I now use water base?
