Buffing v. Sanding

Q: I was wondering if there is a difference between buffing and sanding.

A: Generally, buffing means sanding lightly so as to gently abrade a coat of finish to accept another coat. This is usually accomplished with a polisher and either an abrasive pad or screen which comes in various levels of course to fine grits.
